Grand View made a
commitment to significantly enhance the
way people access and receive emergency
care. The result is a state-of-the-art
emergency center, lab and pharmacy that
ensures patient privacy and accessibility.
The project is in the final stage of
construction, with 9 of the 10 patient
rooms open for patient use. The
renovation is expected to be fully complete
in early October 2014, concluding with a
renovated waiting and registration area.
Emergency room physician Eric
Maki, MD, said that the project will bring
major benefits to patients and guests.
“It’s something we’ve been working
toward for a long time. We want to be
able to improve our efficiency and get
in line with the way that health care has

Dr. Maki said. “Being able to deliver
more privacy and the opportunity to
focus on the patient experience will truly
put our patients first.”
Patient privacy
Enhancing patient privacy and
comfort has resonated throughout the
project. The waiting room will reduce
noise, foot traffic and distractions by
making the room semi-enclosed and
moving it away from the high-traffic
hallway.
The patient rooms are spaciously
designed to accommodate family
members; are fully private, with sliding
doors and curtains; and have improved
technology that can help increase staff
efficiency and reduce patient waiting times.
“For patients it is a more pleasant
experience,” said Dr. Maki. “When you
are here in the emergency room and you
have a space for you and your immediate
family to hang their coat and a TV to
watch, it can make the whole experience
seem shorter and a lot less stressful.”
Innovative care
The addition of a “results pending”
room is a new concept to many
emergency rooms around the nation.
The waiting area within the emergency
department is available for patients to
continue to receive care and treatment
while waiting for something that’s going
to take an extended period of time, such
as preparing for a CT scan or receiving
