Spring/Summer 2014
FROM
a simple beginning with just one
vehicle and a staff of two in 1995, Aspirus
MedEvac has evolved to become a leading
hospital-based provider of medical transport
in north-central Wisconsin and the Upper
Peninsula (UP) of Michigan.
Today Aspirus MedEvac provides ground,
air and intercept services with a staff of 54,
which includes four highly trained helicopter
pilots and two mechanics. Together they
support the Bell 407 helicopter, four transport
ambulances and two intercept SUVs. Aspirus
MedEvac has ground bases in Medford,
Rhinelander and Weston, Wis., and its
helicopter is ready to take flight from its home
base at the Wausau, Wis., airport—typically
less than 10 minutes after a call is received.
When time is critical, the specially
equipped helicopter and highly trained flight
crew can pick up patients from regional
hospitals or directly from the scene of an
emergency. This can drastically reduce the
amount of time it takes to get patients to the
nearest facility that is best able to provide the
level of care they need.
The Bell 407 helicopter is equipped with
sophisticated safety gear including the newest
generation of night vision technology, which
allows the crew to spot power lines, trees and
other hazards even on the darkest of nights. It
also features state-of-the-art satellite tracking
and uses enhanced operational control from
the MedEvac communication center.
The helicopter is staffed 24 hours a
day, 365 days a year with a certified flight
registered nurse/emergency medical
technician, a critical care/flight-certified
paramedic and a pilot.
